Literacy Week

This year, our Literacy Week was a success as we embraced the spirit of our school motto: Friendship & Service. The week kicked off on Monday with the heartwarming activity of Reading to a Friend. Older students joyfully shared quiet moments with their younger peers, basking in the warm midday sun. Year 1 students were especially thrilled to read alongside their Big Brothers and Big Sisters. The event set a delightful tone for the rest of the week.

Throughout the week, our school community, including parents, students, and teachers, enjoyed the Book Fair. The fair’s theme, “Books and friends make us better,” encouraged everyone to explore the wonders of reading. Each visit to the Book Fair was followed by an interactive English story session at the Library, fostering a love of reading and language.

Wednesday was a day filled with storytelling magic as we welcomed Adrián Yeste, a renowned Spanish author of children’s books, to our school. Adrián captivated our students with two shows—one for EP1 and another for EP2. Engrossed in his tales, our students embarked on thrilling adventures narrated by the mesmerizing voice of Adrián. Some of the stories shared were “Rojo” by Liliana Bodoc, “El monte de las ánimas” by Gustavo Bécquer, “Ambrosio en la prehistoria” by Liliana Cinetto, and “Montón de amigos” by Kerstin Schoene.

Friday was a day of celebration as we announced the winner of the “Reading for Friendship and Service” contest. Our students amazed us with their enthusiasm, submitting 152 book recommendations! Olivia Meyer from Year 5B was the lucky winner, and she chose Maura Ferrari as the deserving recipient of the Friendship Book. Olivia also graciously selected another book as a donation for the “Escuelita La Concepción” in Tigre, reminding us of the importance of service. In recognition of Agency in Reading, Mateo Saggese from Year 2A, also received a book of his choice.

As the week drew to a close, we embraced a moment of tranquility with “Dear Time,” where each of our teachers offered the students a storytelling session. It was the perfect conclusion to a week filled with excitement and engagement. What better way to unwind after a busy week than being transported into the realms of imagination through the magic of storytelling?

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all the students, parents, and teachers who contributed to the success of Literacy Week. Together, we have nurtured a love of reading, forged new friendships, and instilled the value of service. Let’s continue to embark on countless literary adventures, exploring the world of books with friends by our side.

Este año, nuestra “Literacy Week” fue un éxito ya que adoptamos el espíritu del lema de nuestro colegio: Amistad y Servicio. La semana comenzó el lunes con la  actividad de “Reading to a Friend”. Los estudiantes más grandes compartieron momentos alegres con sus compañeros más jóvenes, disfrutando del cálido sol del mediodía. Los alumnos de Year 1 estaban especialmente emocionados de leer junto a sus “Big Brothers and Big Sisters”. El evento marcó un tono de alegre expectativa para el resto de la semana.

A lo largo de la semana, nuestra comunidad, incluidos padres, estudiantes y maestros, disfrutaron de la Feria del Libro. El tema de la feria, “Los libros y los amigos nos hacen mejores”, animó a todos a explorar la lectura. Cada visita a la Feria del Libro fue seguida por una sesión interactiva de cuentos en inglés en la Biblioteca, fomentando el amor por la lectura y el idioma.

El miércoles fue un día lleno de magia narrativa ya que recibimos en nuestro colegio a Adrián Yeste, un reconocido autor español de libros infantiles. Adrián cautivó a nuestros alumnos con dos programas, uno para EP1 y otro para EP2. Absortos en sus cuentos, nuestros alumnos se embarcaron en emocionantes aventuras narradas por la fascinante voz de Adrián. Algunas de las historias compartidas fueron “Rojo” de Liliana Bodoc, “El monte de las ánimas” de Gustavo Bécquer, “Ambrosio en la prehistoria” de Liliana Cinetto y “Montón de amigos” de Kerstin Schoene.

El viernes fue un día de celebración ya que anunciamos al ganador del concurso “Reading for Friendship and Service”. Nuestros estudiantes nos sorprendieron con su entusiasmo, presentando 152 recomendaciones de libros. Olivia Meyer de Year 5B fue la afortunada ganadora y eligió a Maura Ferrari como la merecedora del Libro de la Amistad. Olivia también seleccionó otro libro como donación para la “Escuelita La Concepción en Tigre, recordándonos la importancia del servicio. En reconocimiento a su “Agency in Reading”, Mateo Saggese de Year 2A también recibió un libro de su elección.

A medida que la semana llegaba a su fin, disfrutamos de un momento de tranquilidad con “Dear Time”, donde cada uno de nuestros maestros ofreció a los estudiantes una sesión de narración de cuentos. Fue el cierre perfecto para una semana llena de emoción y compromiso. ¿Qué mejor manera de relajarse después de una semana emocionante que ser transportado a los reinos de la imaginación a través de la magia de la narración?

Juntos, hemos fomentado el amor por la lectura, forjado nuevas amistades e inculcado el valor del servicio.
