Independence Day
To commemorate Argentina’s Independence Day, signed on July 9, 1816, in the city of San Miguel de Tucumán, Year 2 students worked with different types of texts to learn about what happened and then shared what they learned with the rest of the students through a colourful fair of stands. Among the activities prepared by Year 2, there was a display of period clothing, traditional food, and the collaborative decoration of an Argentine flag. The students were also invited to locate the province of Tucumán on the map, colour pictures of the historic house of Tucumán and write about what independence means to each of them.
In the afternoon, Year 5 & 6 students received a visit from a group of Year 9 students to discuss and learn about the historical context of independence, its causes and consequences. With an interesting presentation and an open Q&A session, we concluded the 9 of July celebration. Long live the homeland!
Con motivo de la celebración del Día de la Independencia Argentina, firmada el 9 de julio de 1816 en la ciudad de San Miguel de Tucumán, los alumnos de Year 2 trabajaron con distintos tipos de textos para informarse sobre lo sucedido y compartieron lo aprendido con el resto de los alumnos con una colorida feria de stands. Entre las propuestas preparadas por Y2, hubo gala de ropa de época, comida típica y la decoración colaborativa de una bandera argentina. Los alumnos también fueron invitados a ubicar la provincia de Tucumán en el mapa, colorear imágenes de la casa histórica de Tucumán y expresar por escrito qué significa para cada uno ser independiente.
Por la tarde, los estudiantes de 5º y 6º año recibieron la visita de un grupo de estudiantes de 9º año para discutir y aprender sobre el contexto histórico de la independencia, sus causas y consecuencias. Con una presentación interesante y una sesión abierta de preguntas y respuestas, concluimos la celebración del 9 de julio. ¡Viva la patria!
