IB Theatre Students Explore “El Brote”
On Tuesday, September 24th, IB Theatre students from both sites had the exciting opportunity to attend a performance of “El Brote”, a powerful and thought-provoking play. This unique theatrical experience not only immersed our students in live performance but also allowed them to reflect on themes that challenge the boundaries between reality and fiction.
El Brote follows the story of an actor who begins to question the nature of his reality, wondering what kind of character he is in his own life. This existential exploration raises deep questions such as, “What kind of character are we in our own story?”—a theme that resonated with our students, as they themselves explore the complex layers of identity and storytelling in theatre.
Following the performance, our students had the opportunity to participate in a meet & greet with the director, actor, and producer of the play. This gave them valuable insight into the creative process behind the production, learning how ideas move from script to stage and how each element of the performance is crafted.
This experience is particularly relevant for our IB Theatre students, as it offers rich inspiration for their own solo and collaborative pieces. Seeing firsthand how professional theatre practitioners navigate complex themes and character development will surely influence their work as they continue to explore and experiment within their own artistic journeys.
El martes 24 de septiembre, los alumnos de Theatre IB de ambas sedes tuvieron la emocionante oportunidad de asistir a la presentación de “El Brote”, una obra poderosa y provocadora. Esta experiencia teatral única no solo sumergió a nuestros alumnos en una actuación en vivo, sino que también les permitió reflexionar sobre temas que desafían los límites entre la realidad y la ficción.
El Brote sigue la historia de un actor que comienza a cuestionar la naturaleza de su propia realidad, preguntándose qué tipo de personaje es en su propia vida. Esta exploración existencial plantea preguntas profundas como: “¿Qué tipo de personaje somos en nuestra propia historia?”, un tema que resonó con nuestros alumnos, quienes también exploran las complejas capas de la identidad y la narración en el teatro.
Después de la obra, nuestros estudiantes tuvieron la oportunidad de participar en un encuentro con el director, el actor y el productor de la obra. Esto les brindó una valiosa visión del proceso creativo detrás de la producción, aprendiendo cómo las ideas pasan del guión al escenario y cómo se elaboran cada uno de los elementos de la presentación.
Esta experiencia es especialmente relevante para nuestros alumnos de Theatre IB, ya que les ofrece una rica fuente de inspiración para sus propias piezas individuales y colaborativas. Ver de primera mano cómo los profesionales del teatro abordan temas complejos y desarrollan personajes seguramente influirá en su propio trabajo a medida que continúan explorando y experimentando en su viaje artístico.
