Class: Design and Technology

In Y4’s UOI 5 “New Horizons”, students inquire with their teachers about power relations and different perspectives during the Spanish conquest of America. Also, the students read a drama play called “Colón agarra viaje a toda costa”

Taking advantage of this learning context, in the Design and Technology class, the students had a robotic challenge! In this activity they had to work as a team to observe a model of a ship built with the Lego WeDo robotics kit and try to replicate it without the guided step by step instructions. The dynamics consisted of a role-playing activity where they took turns to go to observe the model and return to the team to decide what pieces they needed to start building. Once they were able to build their boat, they discussed with their teacher and colleagues about the function of the motor, the transfer of energy and the use of sensors. The teams programmed their ships and then were able to implement improvements to their buildings. What fun working and learning with Legos!

Clase: Diseño y Tecnología

En la UOI 5 “Nuevos Horizontes” de 4to grado, los alumnos indagan con sus maestras sobre las relaciones de poder y las diferentes perspectivas durante la conquista española de América. Asimismo, los alumnos leen una obra de teatro llamada “Colón agarra viaje a toda costa”. 

Aprovechando este contexto de aprendizaje, en la clase Diseño y Tecnología, ¡los alumnos tuvieron un desafío robótico! En esta actividad tuvieron que trabajar en equipo para observar un modelo de un barco construido con el kit de robótica Lego WeDo para intentar replicarlo sin instrucciones de por medio. La dinámica consistió en un juego de roles donde se tomaban turnos para ir a observar el modelo y volver al equipo para decidir qué piezas necesitaban e ir a buscarlas. Una vez que lograron construir su barco, analizaron con su docente y compañeros sobre la función del motor, la transferencia de energía y el uso de sensores. Los equipos programaron sus barcos y luego pudieron implementar mejoras a sus construcciones. ¡Qué divertido trabajar y aprender con Legos!
