Educational assembly by Y5 students

In a collaborative effort, Y5 A and B prepared an engaging educational assembly based on the book “Matilda” by Roald Dahl. Drawing inspiration from the book, the students embarked on a comprehensive exploration of literary devices and writing techniques. In class, while reading the novel, students learned about the use of similes and metaphors as tools to develop themes and to enrich descriptions. They also studied different connectors and linking words, and how to use them in their written productions. Additionally, they explored how to use quotations both for reading comprehension and to embed them in texts, learning the correct use of the inverted commas and the page reference number. 

Harnessing all this knowledge, both classes worked together in mixed task groups. Each one prepared a presentation showing what they had learnt in class about the different topics based on the novel: an introduction of Matilda and the life of Roald Dahl, Personal and Social Education (PSE), writing descriptions, quotation analysis and asking questions. The task groups gathered the activities done in class and decided how to present them to the families. The assembly stood as evidence to the students’ growth, creativity, and ability to apply their learnings in an engaging and meaningful manner.

En un esfuerzo colaborativo, Y5 A y B prepararon una emocionante clase abierta basada en”Matilda” de Roald Dahl. Inspirados por el libro, los estudiantes se embarcaron en una exploración de elementos literarios y técnicas de escritura. En clase, mientras leían la novela, los estudiantes aprendieron sobre el uso de comparaciones y metáforas como herramientas para desarrollar temas y enriquecer descripciones. También estudiaron diferentes conectores y palabras de enlace, y cómo utilizarlos en sus producciones escritas. Además, exploraron el uso de las comillas y cómo éstas se utilizan para citar en un texto.

Aprovechando todos estos conocimientos, ambas clases trabajaron juntas en grupos mixtos. Cada grupo preparó una presentación mostrando lo que habían aprendido en clase sobre los diferentes temas basados en la novela: una introducción de Matilda y la vida de Roald Dahl, Personal and Social Education (PSE), escritura de descripciones, análisis de citas y formulación de preguntas. Los grupos recopilaron las actividades realizadas en clase y decidieron cómo presentarlas a las familias. La presentación fue evidencia del crecimiento, la creatividad y la capacidad de nuestros alumnos para aplicar sus aprendizajes de manera interesante y significativa.
