Olivos & Nordelta Secondary – Y7 & Y8
During the month of September, Y7 and Y8 students participated in the Northlands 2023 Spelling Bee. The competition consisted of four rounds in which each class carried out a weekly dictation based on a list of 200 words. In the first instance, students had to prepare the first 50 words on the list. In PDL classes, 25 words were taught at the choice of the teacher in charge. In the second, 50 more words were added to the previous list, obtaining a total of 100, and 30 words were taught in class. In the third week, the words dictated were 35. And, finally, in the fourth week, 40 words of the 200 studied were dictated.
That is to say, as the weeks passed, the number of words to be dictated increased and, therefore, the difficulty of the dictations increased. Taking into account the needs and differentiation of all students, each word was repeated twice.
At the end of this process, the students who had accumulated the fewest mistakes in each of the courses participated in the final in Brightman Hall (Olivos) and in the SUM (Nordelta) representing their year group. Then, a new dictation was carried out by Dr. Walter Romero (Head of Spanish Department) with a new list of unknown words.
The winners were Constanza Bujía and Sofía Lorenti (Olivos site) and Mora Federico and Francisco Aragón (Nordelta site), who received purchase orders in bookstores to continue expanding their vocabulary.
Durante el mes de septiembre todos los alumnos de Y7 e Y8 participaron del Concurso Ortográfico Northlands 2023. El certamen constó de cuatro rondas en las que cada curso realizó un dictado semanal a partir de un listado de 200 palabras. En la primera instancia, los alumnos debían preparar las primeras 50 palabras del listado. En clases de PDL, se dictaron 25 palabras a elección del profesor a cargo. En la segunda, al listado anterior se agregaron 50 palabras más, obteniendo un total de 100 y se dictaron en clase 30 palabras. En la tercera semana, las palabras dictadas fueron 35. Y, finalmente, en la cuarta semana, se dictaron 40 palabras de las 200 estudiadas.
Es decir que, a medida que transcurrieron las semanas, se fue ampliando la cantidad de palabras para ser dictadas y, por lo tanto, aumentó la dificultad de los dictados. Atendiendo a la necesidades y diferenciación de todos los alumnos, cada palabra se repitió dos veces.
Al finalizar este proceso los alumnos que hubieran acumulado un menor número de faltas en cada uno de los cursos participaron de la final en el Brightman Hall( Olivos) y en el Sum de Secundaria (Nordelta) en representación de su división. Allí se llevó a cabo un nuevo dictado a cargo del Dr. Walter Romero (Head of Spanish Department) con un nuevo listado de palabras desconocidas.
Resultaron ganadoras Constanza Bujía y Sofía Lorenti (Sede Olivos) y Mora Federico y Francisco Aragón (Sede Nordelta) quienes recibieron órdenes de compra en librerías para continuar ampliando su vocabulario
