2023 Sports Tour to Chile

The sports tour has been a resounding success, owing to the exceptional attitudes displayed by our students. They exemplified integrity and unity, radiating joy and unwavering commitment to our school motto. They have truly shone as exemplary ambassadors not only for their families and our country but also for our institution.

The sports performances have been equally remarkable, as our students faced formidable and seasoned opponents, rising to the challenge and meeting the high expectations placed upon them. Even in sports with less prominence in Chile, our students adeptly employed the “teaching through partnership” approach that is a staple of our school’s pedagogy. This approach enabled them to delve deeper into the knowledge they have acquired.

Results from Dunalastair Chicureo:

• Rugby: 19-19
• Hockey: 2-4
• Women’s volleyball: Both schools collaborated due to the comparatively lower skill level of the Chilean group.
• Boys’ volleyball: The team trained and played in a mixed setting (boys and girls) to maintain motivation.
• Softball: The team trained, and plans are in place for a clinic with the Chilean group in 2024.

Results from GRANGE SCHOOL:

• Hockey: Team A 1 – Team B 3 / Team B 0 – Team A 3
• Volleyball: Women’s volleyball 2-0, securing a gratifying victory.
• Softball: A triumphant win of 10-7.

Amidst representation across all sports, I’d like to pose a few questions about a widely followed sport: soccer.

• Who emerged victorious in the Chile vs Argentina match in Copa America 2022? Argentina claimed victory with a score of 2-1.
• Who emerged victorious in the Chile vs Argentina match in Copa America 2015? Did Chile win? Chile emerged triumphant in that match.
• Who clinched the 2014 World Cup? Germany emerged as the winners.
• Which country boasts the highest number of America’s Cup victories? Argentina and Uruguay share the record with 15 victories each.
• Which team holds the record for the most Libertadores Cup wins? Independiente of Argentina holds the record with 7 wins.

What is the underlying message? Results are transient, with wins and losses forming just a small part of the world of sports. The true essence lies in the experiences you’ve had this week: forging friendships, embracing diverse cultures, and learning from one another. Results may fade, but the lessons learned shape us into better individuals. To learn, one must approach with the right mindset: commitment, dedication, enthusiasm, and humility.

Throughout this week, I witnessed these virtues in abundance. I also observed young individuals joyfully opening their homes, families working tirelessly to ensure everyone’s well-being—actions that are priceless. Individuals with the right attitudes are more valuable than any accolades; they contribute to a more united and harmonious world.

La gira deportiva ha sido un éxito, por los desempeños actitudinales de los estudiantes, quienes demostraron integridad y unión, resaltando la alegría y el compromiso con el lema del colegio. Han sido excelentes embajadores de sus familias, nuestro país e Institución. 

El desempeño deportivo también ha sido destacado, enfrentando grupos muy fuertes y experimentados y han estado a nivel de las exigencias. En los deportes de menor trayectoria en Chile nuestros alumnos/as han sabido enseñarles a través de la pedagogía “enseñanza a través del compañero” usada en nuestra escuela habitualmente, lo que les permite profundizar los saberes aprendidos.

Volleyball varones entrenaron y jugaron mixto (varones y mujeres) para sostener la motivación

VOLLEYBALL: Volleyball mujeres 2-0 ganamos, muy lindo encuentro
Softball ganamos 10 a 7
Rugby: Fue ampliamente derrotado 5 a 35

Cierre y reflexión vs Craighouse: 

Cómo tenemos representantes de todos los deportes les voy a hacer algunas preguntas de un deporte muy popular: fútbol

¿Quién ganó el partido Chile vs Argentina en la Copa América 2022? Ganó Argentina 2 a 1

¿quién ganó en el 2015? Ganó Chile

¿Quién ganó la Copa del mundo 2014? Ganó Alemania

¿Quién es el país más ganador de copas América? Argentina y Uruguay con 15

¿Cual es el equipo con más copas libertadores ganadas? Independiente de Argentina con 7

¿A dónde quiero llegar? Los resultados son circunstanciales, ganar y perder es una pequeña parte del mundo del deporte, muchos de Uds hoy no recordaban exactamente los ganadores. La parte más importante es la que están viviendo esta semana, hacer amigos, conocer y aprender de otras culturas, conocer y aprender de otras personas. Los resultados se olvidan pero los aprendizajes nos hacen mejores personas. Para aprender hay que tener la actitud correcta: entrega, dedicación, ganas, entusiasmo, humildad.

Esta semana vi mucho de esto y además vi jóvenes felices de abrir sus casas, familias ocupadas para qué todos estemos bien… eso vale oro, las personas, con las actitudes correctas valen más que las copas… hacen un mundo más unido y más pacifico.
