ANGLO WEEK at Northlands

KINDER OLIVOS

The Olivos kindergarten pupils came on Wednesday dressed as iconic British characters and personalities, and each class brought with them things to share for their Tea Party. Also, during the morning assembly, Harry Potter, Mary Poppins, and Sherlock Holmes enjoyed some yummy tea and biscuits prepared by Alice in Wonderland’s White Rabbit. Polly Put the Kettle On and Mary Poppins gave the White Rabbit a Spoonful of Sugar to make the medicine go down when her tummy started hurting from eating too many biscuits. All in all a good celebration of our British roots! 

Los alumnos de Kinder Olivos vinieron el miércoles disfrazados de icónicos personajes y personalidades británicas, y cada clase trajo cosas para compartir en su Tea Party. Además, durante el assembly de la mañana, Harry Potter, Mary Poppins y Sherlock Holmes disfrutaron de un delicioso té con galletitas preparado por el Conejo Blanco de Alicia en el País de las Maravillas. Los niños cantaron Polly put the Kettle On y Mary Poppins le dio Un Poquito de Azucar al Conejo Blanco cuando le empezó a doler la panza por comer demasiadas galletitas. Una hermosa celebración de nuestras raíces británicas! 

KINDER NORDELTA

In kindergarten we celebrated Anglo Week by learning and playing traditional nursery rhymes during our music classes.  Our librarian shared some wonderful stories with us and we also met new characters.
We had a marvellous time!

En el Kinder , celebramos Anglo week aprendiendo y jugando con distintas canciones tradicionales  inglesas en nuestras clases de música. Nuestra bibliotecaria compartió con nosotros historias maravillosas y conocimos nuevos  personajes.
¡Fue una semana maravillosa!

OLIVOS PRIMARY

On Tuesday, May 9th, Y5B performed the cannon “London’s Fire”. For the presentation, they invited K5. Some students explained the historical context and the events that occurred that day. They all performed the cannon together.

In addition, in Art, they worked on Monet’s painting of the British Parliament.

It was a very interesting presentation, approached from different areas and perspectives. Good job, kids!

El martes 9 de mayo, Y5B presentó el canon “London’s Fire”. Invitamos a los niños de K5 a compartir la presentación.

Algunos alumnos explicaron el contexto histórico de la canción, y los eventos que se relatan en la misma, y luego cantaron todos juntos. Además, en Arte, trabajaron sobre la serie de pinturas de Monet que representan el incendio del Parlamento Británico.

Fue una presentación muy interesante, abordada desde distintas áreas y perspectivas. ¡Buen trabajo, Y5!

Let’s share an English Tea Party

Y5 and Y6 students recently had a tea party to celebrate Anglo day.

As part of the celebration, our students prepared British snacks such as scones,  and biscuits, and served tea to their guests.

To add to the festive atmosphere, most of the students wore costumes. These costumes included traditional British outfits, such as bowler hats, tweed jackets, and dresses, or they represented British icons.

Overall, the tea party was a fun and engaging way for the Y5 and Y6 students to celebrate the event, enjoy delicious snacks, and spend time with their friends. The experience likely provided the students with an opportunity to learn about British culture and customs while having fun and creating lasting memories.

Los alumnos de Y5 y Y6 recientemente tuvieron una fiesta de té para celebrar el día anglo. Como parte de la celebración, prepararon bocadillos británicos como scones y galletas, y sirvieron té a sus invitados.

Para agregar a la atmósfera festiva, la mayoría de los alumnos usaron disfraces. Estos disfraces incluían trajes británicos tradicionales, como sombreros bombín, chaquetas de tweed y vestidos, o representaban íconos británicos.

En general, la fiesta de té fue una forma divertida y atractiva para que los alumnos de Y5 y Y6 celebraran el evento, disfrutaran de deliciosos bocadillos y pasaran tiempo con sus amigos. Es probable que la experiencia les haya brindado la oportunidad de aprender sobre la cultura y las costumbres británicas mientras se divierten y crean recuerdos duraderos.

NORDELTA PRIMARY

During our Anglo-week 2023, our students learned about the different countries that make up the UK, the Union Jack Flag’s history, and some British interesting facts. Our British Icons parade was also a fascinating starting point that set the tone for the activities of the week.

Within this framework, we had the opportunity to delve into the life and work of the famous author, Oscar Wilde, and explore his masterful story, “The Happy Prince“. This week was filled with excitement as we learned about the historical background surrounding Wilde’s writing and how it influenced his work. It was truly a fun and enlightening experience that enabled us to explore the many themes and concepts woven in his story. 

Moreover, we had the opportunity to share a typical English tea party. We made and ate cucumber sandwiches whilst learning about British traditions and had fun watching three scenes of the well known story “Alice in Wonderland” by Lewis Carroll, performed by our students. In addition, some of our international families  visited us and read a play which we all enjoyed.

This week allowed us to appreciate our English roots and gain a deeper understanding of our cultural heritage. It was an emotionally enriching experience that left us with a newfound appreciation for literature and traditions and its ability to connect us with our past.

Durante “Anglo Week” 2023, nuestros alumnos aprendieron sobre las distintas naciones que conforman el Reino Unido, la historia de su bandera, “The Union Jack” y sobre algunos datos característicos del país. Nuestro desfile de personajes icónicos fue un punto de partida fascinante, que dio el marco a las actividades de la semana. 

Dentro de este contexto, tuvimos la oportunidad de ahondar en la vida y obra del famoso autor Oscar Wilde y explorar la majestuosa historia “El Príncipe Feliz”. A lo largo de la semana aprendimos sobre el contexto histórico en el cual Wilde escribió sus obras y cómo éste influenció su trabajo. Realmente fue una experiencia maravillosa que nos permitió explorar los temas y conceptos que están entretejidos en su historia. 

Además, tuvimos la oportunidad de compartir un típico té Inglés. Preparamos y probamos sandwiches de pepino mientras aprendimos sobre las tradiciones inglesas y presenciamos tres escenas de la conocida historia “Alicia en el País de las Maravillas” de Lewis Carroll, interpretadas por nuestros alumnos. También, algunas familias extranjeras vinieron a leer una obra teatral que disfrutamos muchísimo. 

Esta semana nos permitió apreciar nuestras raíces inglesas y profundizar nuestro conocimiento sobre nuestro patrimonio cultural. Esta experiencia enriquecedora nos dejó una nueva apreciación por la literatura y las tradiciones y la habilidad de conectarnos con nuestro pasado. 

SECONDARY OLIVOS

As part of our Anglo Week celebrations, students from secondary school at Olivos and Nordelta, enjoyed an amazing show honouring our Anglo roots. Mr Rob Dickinson is a trained musician and actor, shaped by different schools and places. Studies and work experience in Buenos Aires, London and New York have determined his artistic identity and style. He visited both sites to present his show: Sonnet Rock. In it, he combines the history of Shakespeare and the Globe theatre, the sonnets and plays with music and performance.

We also organised a quiz for all Secondary students based on a video with English characters that students had to identify. The winner will receive a box of typical English biscuits!

Para celebrar y recordar nuestras raíces británicas, los alumnos de Secundaria Olivos y Nordelta disfrutaron de un show increíble. Mr. Rob Dickinson es un músico y actor altamente capacitado por diferentes escuelas y lugares. Sus estudios y experiencia laboral en Buenos Aires, Londres y Nueva York han desarrollado su identidad artística y estilo. Visitó ambas sedes para presentar su show: Sonnet Rock, donde combina la historia de Shakespeare y el Teatro del Globo, los sonetos y las obras de teatro con música y actuación.

También organizamos un quiz para toda la Secundaria, basado en un video con personajes ingleses que los alumnos debían identificar. El ganador obtendrá una caja de las típicas galletitas inglesas!

SECONDARY NORDELTA

The Secondary School’s Anglo Day was a vibrant celebration of British culture and music. The event featured the school band performing covers of UK artists, a special visit by Rob Dickinson, and an engaging Kahoot session. The festivities combined the artistry of music, the brilliance of British literature, and a spirit of friendly competition, creating an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.

A highlight of the Anglo Day was the visit by the musician Rob Dickinson, who  brought Shakespeare’s sonnets to life through a rock-infused performance.
The students participated in an interactive Kahoot session, further deepening their understanding of British culture and trivia. Divided into groups within their respective houses, they answered questions related to general UK knowledge, rock bands, famous cities, and notable characters from TV, cinema, and literature. The atmosphere was filled with friendly competition and laughter, fostering a sense of camaraderie among the teachers and students.

El Anglo Day de la Secundaria fue una celebración de la cultura y la música británicas. El evento contó con la banda del colegio que interpretó versiones de artistas del Reino Unido, una visita especial de Rob Dickinson y una sesión de Kahoot. Las festividades combinaron el arte de la música, la literatura británica y un espíritu de competencia amistosa, creando una experiencia inolvidable para todos los involucrados.
La banda del colegio interpretó versiones interesantes de canciones de artistas británicos icónicos que dejaron una huella duradera en la escena musical mundial.
Lo más destacado del Anglo Day fue la visita del músico Rob Dickinson, quien dio vida a los sonetos de Shakespeare a través de una actuación que incluía música de rock.
Los alumnos participaron en una sesión interactiva de Kahoot, profundizando aún más su comprensión de la cultura general británica. Divididos en grupos dentro de sus respectivos houses, respondieron preguntas relacionadas con el conocimiento general del Reino Unido: bandas de rock, lugares famosos y personajes destacados de la televisión, el cine y la literatura. Se creó un ambiente de camaradería y de competencia entre los profesores y los alumnos.

THE EXITS

At noon, a rock band named The Exits arrived at school to perform a selection of British songs for the students.

Once the band started to play, our Shakespeare Lawn was filled with the sound of electric guitars and pounding drums. The lead vocalist belted out the lyrics with passion, and the students danced along to their favorite songs. The band played a variety of classic British rock tunes, including hits from The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.

As the performance came to a close, the students cheered and applauded. The Exits thanked everyone for coming out and supporting live music. It was an unforgettable experience for the students, who got to enjoy a live rock performance right at their school.

Al mediodía, una banda de rock llamada The Exits llegó a Northlands para tocar una selección de canciones británicas para los alumnos.

Una vez que la banda empezó a tocar, nuestro Shakespeare Lawn se llenó del sonido de las guitarras eléctricas y los tambores resonantes. El cantante principal cantó las letras con pasión, y los alumnos bailaron al ritmo de sus canciones favoritas. La banda tocó una variedad de clásicos del rock británico, incluyendo éxitos de The Beatles y The Rolling Stones.

Cuando la presentación llegó a su fin, los chicos aplaudieron. The Exits agradeció a todos por asistir y apoyar la música en vivo. Fue una experiencia inolvidable para los alumnos, quienes pudieron disfrutar de una presentación de rock en vivo en su propio colegio.
