Valorar la vida – Evento Interreligioso

Nordelta & Olivos Secondary, April 2018 - What's going on?

On April 11 we celebrated a special event for our students in Year 11 and Year 12 from both sites. Under the motto "Valuing life", we invited representatives of different religions to address current issues - especially those of interest to young people-with our students. Through these activities we aim at deepening the values we promote at School, with the certainty that knowing more about different religions, their sacred texts and traditions, contributes to comprehensive education and to developing the concepts of diversity, appreciation and respect for differences. We trust that this interreligious meeting has enabled our students to go a step further in their appreciation of different beliefs based on faith and has led them to conclude that this learning consolidates their abilities as global citizens who choose freely what is right.
Special thanks to María Eugenia Mafía (coordinator ot Catechism extra- curricular activity), to Marisa Bergman (coordinator of Judaica Kids extra- curricular activity ) and to the representatives of the different religions who shared an open, respectful and deep conversation with our students: Father Fabrizio Maranzana (Catholic Church; Budist Representatives from the Sokka Gakai Community: Rabi Ari Burstein (Representative of the Jewish Community); Ms. Melody Amal Khalil (Representative of Islam); Ram Krishan Singh (Representative of the Sikh Community); Reverend Canon Brian Williams (Anglican Church); Professor Sumer Noufouri (Representative of Islam); Pablo Schpilman (Representative of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints) and Lic. Emir Jarnub (Representative of Islam).

We share some of the reflections of our students on the event:

• "We thought it was a very good experience; we were able to compare different religions, understand new perspectives. Having access to this enabled us to form a better opinion”.

• "We were able to discover new cultures and the thoughts of religions on the different topics that were addressed”.

• “We got to know about different religions, in which the differences and similarities of the approach to current controversial issues became noticeable”.

• “We value the respect each of the different religions had for each other”.

• “We learnt interesting things that we would not have learnt elsewhere”.

• “We were able to have broader knowledge of different and varied religions”.

• “We acquired different points of view which helped to expand our knowledge and reflect on our beliefs”.
